    On Divine Winds ()

Wydane przez Metal Blade RecordsRok wydania Kraj HollandNapisał Wouter8Komentarze (0)Hail Of Bullets - On Divine WindsThe career path of Duth supergroup Hail Of Bullets has been rapidly ascending. As a follow-up to the universally acclaimed "Of Frost and War" this second record makes no concessions. Like their demo and the subsequent album "On Divine Winds" another broodingly dark and heavy death metal record, in the classic tradition of bands such as Bolt Thrower, Asphyx and the likes. As was the case with the debut this new record is another historical accurate depiction of war and global conflict, this time dealing with the Pacific theater in world war II. Where "Of Frost and War" ably conveyed the feeling of frost and despair "On Divine Winds" displays the urgency of battle and the inevitability of death and destruction. Hail Of Bullets are not out to reinvent the wheel, they merely prove that the classic death metal formula hasn't lost any of its touch, relevance or charm, even in today's oversaturated scene of bands outplaying themselves in technicality, speed or heaviness. Where many of their contemporaries fall victim to directionless blasting and incoherent songstructures Hail Of Bullets prove that the traits of what is now called old school death metal are more relevant and needed than ever. These tracks are dirgey, doom fused death metal that holds enough variation to appeal to both old - and new school genre fans. The band's mainly midtempo approach will sit comfortably with Autopsy, Bolt Thrower, Incantation, Massacre and Obituary fanatics. The material is crunchy with solid contributions from all members, the riffing by Thanatos duo Stephan Gebedi and Paul Baayens is savage with a doom – and thrash metal undertone, bassist Theo van Eekelen provides a more than serviceable low end rumble while Gorefest drummer Ed Warby delivers his most passionate work behind the kit to date. The inimitable Martin van Drunen (Asphyx, ex-Pestilence) is his usual self with his recognizable tortured screams and wailing grunts. "On Divine Winds" is a serviceable pure death metal record by the crafty hands of several old masters.
