Much in vein of their previous outing "II Exalted Spectres" is a continuation of said course and further perfects their genre-bending direction. The influences of post-"Pandemonic Incantations" era Behemoth have been taken to their logical conclusion and with each passing release Sacrilegious Impalement become more and more straight up death metal. The riffing is clearly deeply entrenched in their black metal origins with typical eerie Finnish melodies (Barathrum and Horna come to mind) and Swedish riffing (think Setherial) while alternating death metal heaviness with black metal sharpness. The faster cuts are both the records strength and weakness. Tracks such as 'Blessed to Resist', 'Wolves Of the Black Moon' are quite convincing and throat-cutting but simultaneously interchangeable with the other hundreds of bands pledging alliance to this particular subgenre. 'Aletheia' is an atmospheric funeral dirge that shows an entirely different aspect of this band. Frontman Hellwind Inferion has a sufficiently hoarse delivery, channeling both Nergal (Behemoth) and Satyr (Satyricon) in equal measure. The digital artwork is stunning, but reminds quite a lot of the skull sigil Polish deathlords Vader used on their 2006 "Impressions In Blood" album. "II Exalted Specres" is a step forward for these Finns but are yet not on the same level as the Behemoths of this world. With each step they are coming closer, though…
