Tiran is an old school thrash metal band from the Northwestern regions of Russia, on the borders of Estonia and Latvia. Previously they released their debut album "Demonia" in 2009, which was pretty much a love note to the Teutonic thrash scene of old and Sodom in particular. This demo/rehearsal recording further explores that direction. The Sodom template is here further complemented by the stomping groove of "Kill 'Em All" era Metallica and the darkness and vocal stylings of Sathanas, circa "Armies Of Charon". Like those New Jersey veterans Tiran does not shy away from going for the jugular in the least complex way. Tiran is not going to win any awards for musical prowess or compositional ambition, but as far as honesty and sincerity is concerned few can match their hunger and ferocity. These new tracks are head and shoulders above the primitive cuts of their "Demonia" album from two years prior. Swathed in the stylings of early German thrash Tiran lay down the law as a power trio much in the way that South American thrashers Sepultura debuted on their earliest recordings (1985's "Bestial Devastation" EP and 1986's "Morbid Visions"). Like that legendary band Tiran are primarily concerned with getting their message across with whatever means available to them. This rehearsal recording is expectedly crude sounding, but possesses more than enough clarity and range putting many underground black metal bands to shame. With some additional fine-tuning and a fitting studio environment Tiran might be the best kept secret as far as Russian thrash metal is concerned.
