Total Hate is a black metal band from Nuernberg, Germany that practices a rather typical form of Scandinavian black metal. "Necare Humanum Est" is their second album and it is notable for including a cover of 'Northern Thrones' by Swedish genre fiends Throne Of Ahaz. For black metal terms Total Hate is exceptionally heavy, reminding much of the early Swedish death metal sound. The production is expectedly low fidelity which adds to the claustrophobic authenticity this act aims for. Their sound is in the line of classic Mayhem ("De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas") and Gorgoroth with a dash of early Dark Funeral intensity and dynamics. Like most bands of their ilk Total Hate fail to bring something unique to their otherwise blistering style. The most interesting thing on this record is the brief drum introduction to 'Your Light's Extinguished'. The occasional guitar lead/solo adds some spice to this workmanlike exercise in and homage to the Scandinavian black metal sound. If consistency and brutality are high up your of demands from a band than Total Hate will be right down your alley. The more discerning metal fan has heard plenty of times before as it has been done before by many others over the last decade or so. There's nothing inherently wrong with "Necare Humanum Est", but there's nothing truly remarkable about it either.
