In 2009 Swedish act Blood Mortized, who consist of current and former members of Amon Amarth, Excruciate and Crypt Of Kerberos released their self-titled debut through Singaporean label Vrykoblast Productions. While a decent throwback record, it was nothing remarkable compared to all the other bigger and better retro-supergroups (Bloodbath, Deathbreath, Chaosbreed) and the veterans of the Stockholm sound (Dismember, Grave, Necrophobic, Unleashed). This new EP presents three new cuts and is meant to arouse label interest around their projected second full length. The opening and title track 'Bestial' features the expected sample of the chain-whipping scene from Lucio Fulci's 1981 splatter epos "The Beyond". Unleashed ("Where No Life Dwells") and Entombed ("Clandestine") are the biggest comparisons, especially vocally the similarities are apparent. 'Shadows Of the Quarter Sun' follows suit in these patterns and adds some killer grooves. Closing track 'Rekviem' is a much slower, almost grinding to doom paced track, which is probably the darkest track the band have written to date. As with their debut the production attempts to recreate the crunchy and organic Sunlight Studio sound of old, which can only be complemented in today's climate of flat and sterile sounding production works. These three new tracks are a lot better than what the debut offered. Hopefully this will lead to an exciting second album for Blood Mortized.
