Third album by Swedish supergroup featuring Rogga Johansson (Banished From Inferno, Bone Gnawer, the Grotesquery, Paganizer), Dan Swanö (Edge Of Sanity, ex-Bloodbath, Infestdead), Johan Berglund (Ribspreader), Pär Johansson (Satariel) and Ed Warby (Gorefest, Hail Of Bullets, 11th Hour). The title is somewhat of an enigma, as 'slakthus' is Swedish for 'slaughterhouse' and Gamleby is the town where founder Rogga Johansson is located. As with their previous two records "Slakthus Gamleby" presents no-frills Swedish death metal (think Necrophobic and Unleashed) with occasional melodic synthesizer moments and clean vocal sections. 'Travellers Of the Vortex' carries an undeniable Morbid Angel vibe with its slow building climax, eerie melodies and monstrous groove. Johansson's riffs are easily to recognize, although it becoming clear that his output is reaching its limits. While obviously little more melodic, it's hard to tell this project apart from the many other studio projects that Johansson is current engaged in and committed to. As far as melodic death metal goes this one is pretty dark and malevolent sounding. The alternating stomping groove and soothing melodies offset each other wonderfully and while Demiurg does nothing new in this genre, their approach to it makes it at least sound fresh and exciting. The vocal interaction between both Johanssons is nothing but spectacular on this cut with the soothing leads/solos by Swanö being the icing on the cake. The wonderful production provides this record with a healthy bottom end groove while retaining clarity on all instruments and given them the required space to reach maximum effect. In a way Demiurg is similar to Sweden' s The Project Hate only do the latter take their modern influences farther. The horrific artwork by Dan Seagrave is always a plus.
