As the first non-Finnish signing to Hammer Of Hate Records it becomes instantly clear why the label decided to offer them a recording contract. Evangelivm specialize in theological and thelemic black metal, much inspired by the French scene. Inspired by the likes of Antaeus and (earlier) Behemoth "Nightside Of Eden" combines blasting black metal with ritualistic midpaced parts, death metal heaviness and commanding vocals full of venom and vigor. The arrangements aren't equally strong, but Evangelivm are head and shoulder above most of their contemporaries. This far more musically and lyrically accomplished than what the underground usually offers in this genre. Despite being entirely self-recorded Evangelivm has production values similar to the work BST Studios and its producer Sébastien Tuvi. Mixed and mastered at Endarker Studio (the Legion, Marduk). The artwork, design and lay-out are minimal and a tad disappointing considering the care theological black metal acts usually put into the visual representation of their music. Russia continues to amaze with its increased presence in the underground.
