    A Life Spent Dying ()

Wydane przez Grau RecordsRok wydania Kraj USANapisał Wouter7Komentarze (0)Fall Of Empyrean - A Life Spent DyingDoom metal combo from Tempe, Arizona in the vein of (early) My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost and Anathema. "A Life Spent Dying" is the band's third record after sessions in 2002 and 2004. The tracks are typically long winded cuts with slow unfolding melodies, grand arrangements and sparse use of soothing acoustics. While the production is a bit thin and spartan it works miracles for the drums. Compared to other American doom acts Fall Of Empyrean not nearly sound as immeasureably desolate in its darkness as Evoken or as alienated or as claustrophobic as Khanate. In that sense Fall Of Empyrean are more European sounding in that atmosphere prevails over heaviness or the incessant desire to create a pondering monotony. "A Life Spent Dying" isn't the second coming or revelatory US doom album this year, but it is certainly a commendable one that will sit comfortably with fans new and old of the genre. Recorded at Arcane Digital Studios in Chandler, Arizona with Ryan Butler. Mastered by Dave Shirk at Sonorous Mastering Inc. (Incantation, Origin, Soilent Green, Today Is the Day) The snares sound somewhat powerless but the kickdrums are absolutely massive. Artwork, design and lay-out by Robert Hoyem fit well with the record. If you like US doom with a sense of melody than Fall Of Empyrean is a good starting point.
