Ambient black metal from France. The ambient parts sound like pre-"The Stargate" Mortiis and its midpaced black metal is mostly akin to Striborg, albeit of slightly better quality in production. The tracks differ wildly in length, going anywhere from 3 minutes to 16 minutes a piece. The ambient tracks feature solemn piano melodies which interplay with organs and atmospherics. Alternating the slow tracks are faster pieces, which last rather briefly, but provide enough variation to keep the music interesting. The wailing vocals aren't anything special and strengthen further comparison to Striborg. As with Striborg this band takes a few ideas and expand upon said themes through long winding melodies and nearly hypnotic riffing. The tempo isn't necessarily the highest but the ritual atmosphere prevails. The production is rather typical for the genre, although notably bass-heavy with decent sound drums and a prominent place for the bass guitar. Grisatre don't do any major wrongs with this release, the fact that there are so many of these acts will make it hard for many of them to get noticed by a larger audience. The special edition digipack contains a bonus track, exclusive to that limited release.
