Consisting of members from established French black metal acts Arkhon Infaustus, Antaeus, Secrets Of the Moon, Temple Of Baal, Vorkreist and Mütiilation this combo from Paris hardly made up of amateurs. Where lots of black metal acts deal with the occult, the thelemic or merely the Satanic, Hell Militia (despite their misleading moniker) deal with narcotic abuse, isolation in modern society and urban decay. As many of its contemporaries Hell Militia are able to sound militant and abrasive without falling victim to constant blasting. Instead the create an eerie atmosphere through the use of excellent dynamics and truly depraved sounding vocals. While this is far more traditional compared to some more out-there or esoteric French acts, Hell Militia don't sound any less potent because of it. While orthodox black metal has become a movement of its own in France over the last years, the more traditional forms of black metal haven't lost any of its strength. It doesn't take long to notice that this is a French black metal act, as that country has over the last couple of years carved out a sound all its own that can easily compete with the established scenes in Norway, Sweden and Finland. The production is raw and reminiscent of Antaeus, (early) Enthroned and Aosoth in a number of ways. Hell Militia might not be as occult as their peers, but they certainly aren't any less potent.
