Blood, Bones and Ritual Death (ep)

"Blood, Bones and Ritual Death" is the precursor of Nox' second full length. The EP presents four new tracks along with a re-recorded cut from their debut and an intro. The intro 'The Place Of Crossing' is a 90 second long repetition of a typical Nox riff to set the mood. 'Blessed Is the Hand that Destroys', 'From Hell to Worse', 'Psalm 333' and 'Procession Of Blood' are the new tracks and they are in the band patented style of classic Deicide and Morbid Angel inspired death metal with whirlwind riffing and abstract chaotic soloing. Singer Seth van de Loo has moved behind the drumkit, and his style is quite similar to that of Centurian skinsman Wim van der Valk. Substituting van de Loo behind the microphone is Prostitute Disfigurement vocalist Niels Adams, whose caustic but well enunciated grunts fit well with the style. The bass work of former Centurian guitarist Oskar van Paradijs meshes seamlessly with Rob Oorthuis' riffing and labyrinthine compositions. The recordings were done at Voodoo Sound Studios with producer Paul van Rijswijk the production is notably smoother compared to "Ixaxaar". The EP was mastered at Hay Zeelen Mastering in Amsterdam. The artwork, design and lay-out expands upon the concepts and themes started with Centurian and as such as a great continuation. "Blood, Bones and Ritual Death" is a good stopgap EP before Nox returns to its full power and potential. While Centurian might be dead and buried, Nox will channel Choronzon.
