Featuring members from Nazxgul "In Memoriam, Ill Omen" is quite different than the band from whence its members came. The light use of melancholic melodies and whisphered/screamed vocals Pestilential Shadows do a refreshing take on the blistering Scandinavian black metal template. The assault is unrelenting and the tempo is high through out. Nevertheless do Pestilential Shadows an admirable take on this already saturated genre. The use of sparse epic guitar leads/solos and some piano also great adds to the charm and coldness of the record. "In Memoriam, Ill Omen" answers how Darkthrone would have sounded had they been formed in New South Wales instead of Oslo. The production is muddy with a buzzing guitar tone, audible bass lines and okay sounding drums. The artwork, design and lay-out are fantastic and fit splendidly with the record. While by no means revolutionary "In Memoriam, Ill Omen" is a solid epic Scandinavian black metal record bereft of any atmospheric - or folk elements that will appeal to fans who like their assault high-speed and unrelenting in its onslaught.
