Consisting of members from Luciferion, Forest Of Impaled and Malevolent Creation this Swedish-Polish-American band is hardly lacking in experience and more than a sum of its part. Led by guitar wizard Wojtek Lisicki (Luciferion, ex-Lost Horizon) Against the Plagues is, musically, a continuation of the direction started on Luciferion's second semi-conceptual album "The Apostate". Like that record this debut of Against the Plagues combines technical death metal with grand sounding cosmic keyboards and synthesizers that could have been culled from the early Limbonic Art albums. The vocals range from rasps to grunts and dramatic spoken passages. The frantic leads/solos by Lisicki are probably the best in the genre. The majority of the record was cutted at Studio One in Racine, Wisconsin with Chris Djuricic (Fleshgrind, Jungle Rot, Novembers Doom) with partial sessions at Metal King Domain Sonic Lab in Gothenburg, Sweden. Mastered by Dan Swanö at Unisound Studios in Sweden. "Decoding the Mainframe" is actually a fully remastered, partially remixed re-issue of the band's 2007 independently released debut album "The Architecture Of Oppression" with newly recorded drums by Varyen. Although the title has been changed for this re-issue the superb artwork, design and lay-out remain intact and fit splendidly with this impressive musical package. This is definitely the record you need to hear this year.
