Godhate are hardly a new band to the international death metal scene. Formed in 1991 as Throneaeon in Västeras, Sweden they are one of the uncrowned and vastly underrated veterans. After an EP in 1999 and two records (in 2001 and 2003, respectively) they changed their name to Godhate and now release their third album after another EP released in 2005. As in the past Godhate present a vicious mix of Slayer, Deicide and (early) Morbid Angel. The lead vocals by guitarist/founding member Tony Freed remind of Altar. While the assault is unrelenting Godhate never fall into directionless brutality like so many younger acts, a proof of their lengthy existence and experience. Freed's vocals are also better enunciated than the majority of today's unintelligible gurglers and monotoneous growlers. All tracks contain a couple of good leads/solos which combined with the excellent dynamics and catchy choruses make what can be considered the best pure death metal record this year. A promo video was shot for the track 'Godhate'. The artwork, design and lay-out aren't very special or particularly eye-catching, but the content and performance on this disc greatly compensates that minor complaint. Godhate is one of the few still existing bands of the second era of Swedish death metal and as ambassadors of that scene its refreshing to hear a more traditional approach to this genre.
