After making name for himself with death metal acts Disgorge, Blood Reaping and Ravager vocalist/guitarist Antimo Buonnano now is exploring the black metal direction further with Demonized, Hacavitz and Warfield. Compared to Warfield "Metzli Obscura" is far more occult and regularly borders on death metal as far as riffing, heaviness and dynamics is concerned. With song titles such 'Towards Black Pest', 'Most Unclean', 'Angstcraftwerk' and 'Sulphur Winds' and other tracks dealing with Mexico's pre-Hispanic and Aztec mythology and history this record takes the best of both genres. 'Towards Black Pest' features guest vocals of Impiety vocalist Shyaithan. Drummer Oscar Garcia is in fine form and once again proves that he might be one of Mexico's best death/black metal skinsman on the scene today. The presence of regular eerie leads/solos also adds greatly to the atmosphere of oppression and darkness. The album is dedicated to the memory of Mexican drummer Saul Martinez (Blood Reaping, Raped God 666) and features handdrawn artwork by Santiago Armengod. As far as intensity goes "Metzli Obscura" is on par (and exceeds) their 2005 debut "Venganza" and is far more venomous and properly produced than their second album "Katun". After Brazil Mexico is the place to look for the dirtiest and most extreme metal on the planet.
