It was only a matter of time before it was bound to happen, but now Unique Leader Records have their own death-ish metalcore band. The oddly named Halo Of Gunfire do have a more technical riff-centered, blasting and lead/solo laden approach to the genre and its no surprise that the label signed them on basis of that merit alone. The guitar work is reminiscent of a lighter version of Brain Drill, while the general execution is akin to Divine Heresy, especially the Tim Yeung-inspired drumming. Vocally, this is more death metal oriented with well-developed grunts and shrieks. At this point Halo Of Gunfire are at a fork in the road, having to choose whether they'll fully adopt and embrace their fledging technical death metal leanings or go for the crowd-friendly metalcore direction. Only time will tell. The production of Entropy Media Studios is crisp and pristine, similar to Divine Heresy's debut "Bleed the Fifth". Overall, "Conjuring the Damned" is a exemplary exercise of the genre, it's only surprising that it is coming to us through death metal factory Unique Leader and not core-specialist label Sumerian Records.
