Inquisition
Into the Infernal Regions Of the Ancient Cult ()

Originally based in Colombia but relocated to western Washington State later on. This album was originally released through Sylphorium Records in 1998 and re-issued twice, in 2000 and 2003, respectively. This is the album that sparked interest in South American black metal in the international scene. This re-release by Hell's Headbangers has been completely remastered and comes with exclusive artwork. The sound of this debut is heavily indebted to European pioneers of Bathory, Mayhem, Mercyful Fate, Celtic Frost and US black/death stalwarts Sathanas. The creepy nasally vocals from time to time are similar to those of Atilla Csihar's vocal performance on "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" – except that here they are even more theatrical. The dynamics and arrangements are what differentiates Inquisition from other outfits at the time. While their peers were trying to outdo each other in playing faster and without hooks Inquisition play at a more deliberate pace with attention to evolving dynamics and dramatic hooks. In this sense Inquisition are more a occult dark metal band (think early Christ Agony, for example) in that feeling and atmosphere prevail over speed or technical wizardry. The bass-heavy production puts emphasis on the drum kit and the general bottom end heaviness of the record. The abstract horror/Lovecraft artwork (thematically similar to Vader's "Future Of the Past") fits far better than the original piece and adds to the aura and mystique. Pick it up while supplies last.
