With ties to legendary New York death metal stalwarts Incantation and even pre-dating them by two years "Disgusting Blasphemies Against God" is the long awaited second album from the Paul Ledney-fronted original US black metal act Profanatica. The tracks are rather straightforward and bereft of any recognizable hooks or otherwise memorable dynamics. With songtitles such as 'Pious Piece Of Shit', 'Covered In Black Shit' and 'Excrement Sacrosanct' there's little in the way of subtlety. This is an almost formless mass of demonic doom-laden black metal with a heavy emphasis on the combo's death metal roots. This second record is definitely acquired taste as this band does not compromise for anything. "Disgusting Blasphemies Against God" is exactly what its title suggests. This is blasphemous occult death/black metal for only the extremest of fans. It's incredibly brutal, unforgiving and an entirely hookless affair that tests the listener's will and endurance to experience it in full. Productionwise this is similar to "Mortal Throne Of Nazarene" era Incantation. Profanatica isn't for the weak or the faint of heart as this second record is the most primal expression of bestial black metal you'll hear this year.
