After a demo and two EPs Finnish black metal horde Sacreligious Impalement debut on black metal specialist label Hammer Of Hate Records. "Cultus Nex" combines the black metal texture with death metal heaviness and Sacrilegious Impalement is somewhat similar to post-"Pandemonic Incantations" era Behemoth in that respect. Like Graveborn before them "Cultus Nex" combines modern day death metal styled production work and general heaviness with all the venom that second generation Scandinavian black metal is known for. The execution is tight and the production work superb giving Sacrilegious Impalement a far more professional image than some of their lo-fi brethren. There are no real highlights or lowpoints on this record, which is a feat in itself. While there's space for growth and evolution not too many bands manage to debut in such a convincing fashion. The album was mastered at the ever-reliable Necromorbus Studio in Stockholm, Sweden. The artwork, design and lay-out serve their purpose, although they are not very special. "Cultus Nex" will appeal to fans of Archgoat, Behexen, Enochian Crescent, Graveborn, Horna, Satanic Warmaster and the likes.
