After releasing two demos and an EP through their own Black Devastation Records German black metal duo Salvation 666 now officially debut on Spanish label BlackSeed Productions. "Anima Pestifera" presents Nordic black metal that is Swedish and Norwegian influenced in equal measure. As far as head-on intensity goes it is definitely Norwegian whereas the melancholic melodies and eerie harmonies derive a Swedish origin. The trollish vocals remind of Abbath (Immortal) and Satyr (Satyricon). While Salvation 666 isn't very original in sound nor imagery "Anima Pestifera" is thoroughly enjoyable listen. This record isn't going to change the face of this genre, but actually reminds that good things can still be found in the underground, if they are granted the time to be nurtured into full potential. Given the amount of shoddy releases and questionable bands within this genre they are a breath of fresh air in a genre that has otherwise lost much of its original appeal and mystique over the last 5 to 10 years. The artwork is nothing special and handdrawn artwork by Erick Neyra, Sickness666 or Chris Moyen would have fitted better here.
