    Impulsive Psychopathic Acts ()

Wydane przez Comatose Music/Metalhit.comRok wydania Kraj SpainNapisał Wouter4Komentarze (0)Cerebral Effusion - Impulsive Psychopathic ActsAfter two records on Unmatched Brutality and Goregiastic Records, Basque Country, Spain death metal combo Cerebral Effusion, who formed in 1997, are now back with their third album (and first for Comatose Records) in what their label describes as a "feature of sickness in 2010". Where their 2003 debut "Violence In Motion" mainly ripped material from Cannibal Corpse's classic Chris Barnes era, since 2005's "Smashed & Splattered Organs" this band re-directed its gaze unto New York death metal legends Suffocation, Pyrexia ("Sermon Of Mockery") and Morpheus Descends ("Ritual Of Infinity") with a dash of (early) Deeds Of Flesh. "Impulsive Psychopathic Acts" combines the blasting brutality of California's Disgorge with a third or fourth generation Suffocation clone and all expected defects that this brings. The vocals are gurgled in an undecipherable manner, only syllables can be made out at best. The riffing feels lifted from Suffocation's landmark 1991 debut "Effigy Of the Forgotten", the bass guitar is audible but does nothing that warrants attention. The constant pit riffs, slam sections and lack of dynamics make this a dull affair. The lack of recognizable guitar leads/solos or even a hook make the songs clog together without truly going anywhere. A guitar lead/solo would help individualize these bland cuts, after all we're not expecting to hear Chuck Schuldiner (Death, Control Denied), Ralph Santolla (Obituary, ex-Deicide), Paul Masvidal (Cynic), Tim Roth (Into Eternity), Trey Azagthoth (Morbid Angel) or Robert Vigna (Immolation) styled fretboard explorations here. "Impulsive Psychopathic Acts" is certainly brutal, but with little internal logic and is completely directionless. The song titles make precious little sense ('Humiliation Through Methodic Submission', 'Homophobic Indiscriminate Violation', 'Last Torture Preferment' and 'Absolute Excrement') and it feels as if Cerebral Effusion don't quite have a grasp of the English language. Even the band's logo feels ripped from better bands such as Caedere and Hour Of Penance. The album was mixed and mastered by Jörg Uken at Soundlodge Studios (God Dethroned, Inhume). The gory cover art by Marco Hasmann (Blasphemer, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Septycal Gorge, Vomit the Soul) however is fantastic as ever. Despite promising external appearances "Impulsive Psychopathic Acts" is better avoided in favor of true landmark records such as Suffocation's "Effigy Of the Forgotten", Deeds Of Flesh's "Gradually Melted", Morpheus Descends' "Ritual Of Infinity" or Fleshgrind's "Destined For Defilement".
