Disfigured Dead hail from death metal capital New York and despite that their sound is reminiscent of San Francisco, Michigan and Florida pioneers Autopsy ("Severed Survival"), Repulsion ("Horrified") and Death ("Scream Bloody Gore", "Leprosy"). Originally scheduled to be released by Reaper Metal Records, but was handed over to Hells Headbangers. The enthusiasm and conviction drips from this record and the performances are good across the board. While it's easy to pinpoint the bands and records that inspired Disfigured Dead – they aren't quite yet on the same level as their inspirations. The production is exactly like those early Autopsy and Death records; bass-heavy with hammering snare drums and massive sounding kickdrums plus crunchy sounding guitars that leave enough space for the bass guitar to thunder through. The vocal interaction between and vocals of drummer Kyle Kratzer and guitarist Evy Thompson are also quite similar to those of Chris Reifert (Autopsy, Abscess, ex-Death) and Chuck Schuldiner's wails on "Scream Bloody Gore". The cover artwork by Jason Leer isn't exactly amazing but fits well enough with this great old school death metal package. Disfigured Dead is a great addition to the old school death metal canon and in a few short years from now, they'll find their own voice and be even great because of it.
