Traumatic Reconfiguration ()

Compared to their "Triumph Of Evilution" split with Katalepsy and Blunt Force Trauma this UK act has adopted a far more traditional sound. Like the early bands in the genre they refrain from blasting constantly, write songs with recognizable structures, have an audible bass guitar and play finger-twisting leads/solos. "Traumatic Reconfiguration" mostly sounds like "Winds Of Creation" era Decapitated with a dash of primitive brutality akin to UK veterans Desecration and the intensity of "De Profundis" era Vader. The relatively well enunciated gurgled and shrieked vocals remind of classic Deicide. 'Purgind Impurity' has a fantastic lead/solo. 'Dispossessed' is a great dark little cut with flexible dynamics and a recognizable start-stop structure. 'Expanding the Void' continues the combination of technical prowess, great lead/solo work and blast sections with all encompassing darkness. The title track and 'Oblivion' are the best UK death metal tracks of the last couple of years. Produced by Nick Hemmingay of Phillia Studios (Cancer, Desecration, Stamping Ground) this record comes with healthy bass sound and bottom end. The drums sound too sterile and almost feel like as if they were programmed. The macabre artwork, design and lay-out (which actually reminds a bit of Fleshcrawl) make "Traumatic Reconfiguration" one of the few underground death metal records worth checking out. If Fleshrot continues to develop at this rate, they'll be at the top of the UK death metal scene in an album or two. Forget about Annotations Of An Autopsy and Trigger the Bloodshed – Fleshrot and Spearhead is what UK death metal is all about. Finally a band that can compete with the old masters of the genre.
