Inflammare is the melodic death/heavy metal project of a number of members from dark death metallers Dead Remains. The band was formed in 1994, but only now releases their debut on their own label imprint. "In Memory Of" is most similar to Italian melodic death metal combo Dominance (their 1999 debut "Anthems of Ancient Splendour") but misses the power, brutality and Dissection alike arrangements they had. 'Hordes Of Darkness' starts out with an acoustic guitar intro and whisphered vocals, very reminiscent of the Swedish death metal record of the early and mid '90s. The majority of tracks are sung in English, while 'Prelude to Winter', 'Nebel' and 'Reise In Nichts' are sung in their native German. 'Winter' merges their basic melodic death metal with Iron Maiden stylings. 'Glory In Battle' starts off with a lush cinematic intro, but falls apart quickly after that. Recorded at AK Productions by former guitarist and manager Andreas Knüpfer the bass-heavy but muffled production gives all instruments the space they need while not adding any additional heaviness. The guitar tone is good, but could use more bite and oomph. The vocals are not very convincing either. The band's biggest flaw is how basic the arrangements and songs themselves tend to sound. From a band existing over a decade, you'd expect to hear something more brutal, forward thinking and all the more accomplished than your average demo band. Sadly, "In Memory Of" sounds than nothing more but a glorified demo recording.
