Reminiscence (ep)

Progressive death/black metal from Trondheim, Norway formed by guitarist Roger Isaksen. The vocals of Martin Lahlum (Metherra) remind of Emperor frontman Ihsahn, Jon Nodtveidt (Dissection) and in its more spoken parts of My Dying Bride's Aaron Stainthorpe. The riffing is in equal parts death metal heaviness, progressive fretboard explorations as well as storming black metal avalanches. The versatility of the players is truly remarkable. The drum programming is serviceable but not really significant, a human drummer will Vecordious only sound more organic and natural. Recorded at Skarp Studio and Dead Earth Studio "Reminiscence" comes with a good enough sound. The bass guitar lies prominently in the mix and the guitar tone could use a bit more bite and clarity. Mixed by Thomas Næssan. The artwork, design and lay-out by Nibelungen Design is far better than some established bands in the genre. As with any band starting out and operative shortly, most of these ideas are in embryonal phase at this point. With more time to gestate, to be written and re-written, better and more classical arrangements and a skilled human drummer at their disposal Vecordious might just surprise in a few years time. "Reminiscence" is a good little EP for a progressive death/black metal on the verge of writing something truly special.
