Norwegian black metal from Seattle, Washington by Drawn and Quartered drummer Dario Derna here on bass and guitar. Featuring vocals by Herb Burke (Drawn and Quartered) and Nihilist (In Memorium, ex-Abazogorath). Like many other US black metal combos Vetus Obscurum are heavily influenced by the second wave of black metal origination from Norway in the early to mid nineties. Through out this EP influences from Immortal ("Pure Holocaust"), Emperor ("Wrath Of the Tyrant") and Satyricon ("Dark Medieval Times") are clearly audible, yet the dual vocal assault makes it sound all the more malevolent. There isn't a great deal of diversity and the tracks storm by relentlessly without really standing out from the many others in this field. The instrumentation is good and the while the production is expectedly minimal, "Blood Revelations" sounds good enough to warrant a conforming nod. It remains to be seen whether Vetus Obscurum will break out of the mould and do something truly individual.
