A deceivingly ambient intro opens this record before delving into 'A Step Into the Void'. Bass-heavy and discordant black metal from Fance that is technical and sounds similar to Pavor and Deathspell Omega with serpentine vocals that remind of Emperor frontman Ihsahn. "Desecrated Internal Journey" plays mostly at midpace giving the guitar – and bass lines the space required to unfold and evolve. It feels as as if the guitars function as support and the bass guitar leads the compositions. The riffing is incredibly thick with adverse melodies and unreal amount of wayward technicality. 'The Worm' is another great slow building track with twisted guitar lines and ritualistic drumming. Way To End feel as the black metal answer to German technical death metal icons Pavor as both bands carve their own path with conventional sounding material that is essentially pure for the genre, but easily outdoes its many peers on the scale of intensity and musicianship. "Desecrated Internal Journey" isn't something for the average shrieking black metal fan as this record is far darker, more technical and disturbing than what the underground usually delivers. A bleak and harrowing experience. Highly recommended.
