    Twilight Of the Apocalypse ()

Antares is a red supergiant star in the Milky Way galaxy and the sixteenth brightest star in the nighttime sky. Along with Aldebaran, Spica, and Regulus it is one of the four brightest stars near the ecliptic. With a name like that it comes as no surprise that "Twilight Of the Apocalypse" couples highly precise thrash metal, swirling symphonic black metal with cosmic themes and concepts. Antares Predator is, in its more symphonic moments, similar to both Emperor and Limbonic Art, although the band never get as majestic nor as progressive as those two bands. In parts Schulze mimicks Ihsahn's vocal style a bit too close for comfort. The production of Kohlekeller Studios and producer/engineer Kristian Bonifer (Agathodaimon, Crematory, Flowing Tears) is sufficient although it could have used more definition, range and clarity. The drums of Jan Benkwitz sound hopelessly impotent and powerless. The keyboards and synthesizers sound a bit muffled in the background at crucial moments. The robotic creature on the frontcover resembles Mark 13 from 1990 Richard Stanley sci-fi cult movie "Hardware" in close detail. By no means Antares Predator is re-inventing the wheel for high speed symphonic black metal template, but "Twilight Of the Apocalypse" is miles ahead in terms of what the international underground produces in this genre. Well done, gentlemen.
