With a star-studded line-up like that it comes as no surprise that Autumn Hour is well-developed musically, has a strong compositional muscle and no shortage of conceptual ideas. A concept CD, the premise of the story is based around ideas developed by Ray Kurzweil in his ground-breaking book "The Singularity Is Near". Like Symphony X, Pain Of Salvation and Dream Theater this band revels in writing small epics with lush instrumentation, soaring vocals and grand ideas. "Dethroned" comes in three chapters that detail humanity's struggle in face of an oppressive singular machine. Tecchio delivers the majority of the vocals but the other members contribute in this department as well. It's good to see the return of technical metal's early contributors now that the genre is experiencing a global resurgence. Recorded at J-Rod Productions in New City, New York by Jon Ciorciari "Dethroned" comes with pristine and crystal clear production job that puts gives each instrument its required space while emphasizing Autumn Hour's bottom end groove. The futuristic artwork nicely complements this already impressive package. Surprisingly, the album also contains a cover of 'Here Comes the Rain Again' by British pop duo Eurythmics.
