Two years after their Moribund Records debut "Malignant" Swedish black metallers Avsky once again serve up another platter of misanthropic pure black metal. Using funereal tempos as well as the genre's patented high speed excursions "Scorn" is what its title implies; a hateful and barbaric execution of Scandinavia's most popular genre. The vocals are in the tradition of Legion-fronted Marduk. (early) Enthroned and Dark Funeral are still's Avsy's primary influences. The record is mostly midpaced and the gloomy atmosphere is poignant in these slower cuts. At once militant and aggressive in execution while remaining strangely and unconventionally melodic. "Scorn" picks up where "Malignant" left off and adds another dose of diabolical devilry to the proceedings. "Scorn" isn't able to top "Malignant" but at least is able to match with similar sadistic intent and head-on intensity. The artwork, design and lay-out isn't much to write home about and it is strange that Moribund Records didn't opt to make this band choose more fitting artwork. The murky production is typically lo-fi but fits with Avsky's primitive assault. Digital download comes with an exclusive bonus track called 'Wounds' for those who prefer the digital format over its traditional physical counterpart.
