High octane death metal with black metal stylings featuring Finntroll vocalist Mathias Lillmans."The Preachings Of Hate Are Lord" is stylistically similar to mechanical death metal acts Myrkskog, Hate Eternal, Zyklon, post-"Pandemonic Incantations" era Behemoth and the likes. The vocals are overall quite similar to Behemoth's Nergal and in certain parts reminiscent of Meshuggah's Jens Kidman. Lillmans sounds quite different here from his main band Finntroll. The music is mostly fast with tracks such as 'Scoff at the Benign', 'You Will Not Lie to Me, Christ' and 'Oppose, Enlighten' being the most brutal of this offering. Other tracks such as 'You Should Be Ashamed Of Yourselves', 'Might Makes Right' or 'The Filthmonger' make a Morbid Angel influence apparent as even at midtempo Chthonian remain crushing and colossal despite all lack of speed. The bass-heavy production is thick with an immense almost industrial sounding snare. The guitar tone is crushingly crunchy and crisp with enough range and definition. The artwork embeds the Omega, which is often used to denote the last, the end, or the ultimate limit of a set and the thumb down, which in modern popular culture, is assumed that "thumbs down" was the signal that a defeated gladiator should be condemned to death in Ancient Rome. "The Preachings Of Hate Are Lord" is not something you'd typically expect to come out of Finland, but nevertheless Chthonian prove that solid death metal no longer comes of the US or East-Europe exclusively.
