Astride Over the Grave (EP)

Hailing from Helsinki, Finland, and releasing their first effort with this EP, Graveborne aim to become the most dangerous act of the country. Sharing two members with Black Crucifixion and the legendary Beherit it becomes instantly clear that is a band that has honed its craft before heading into the recording studio. Most the music is played brutally fast, relentless in its tight-knit onslaught and sleek in execution. The wailing vocals are sick and demented. Like its Finnish brethren Graveborne create a cold misanthropic atmosphere of darkness. "Astride Over the Grave" doesn't add anything to the existing Finnish black metal sound, but its ferocious execution, impressive technical chops and high end production do make Graveborne stand out from the primitively produced peers. The EP is a home recorded affair but can compete with any label backed release today. Mixed at Drop Hammer Studio by Matias Helle, mastered by Jaakkoo Viitalahti at Virtalähde Analog Studio. The comic book artwork by Teemu Kangas feels a bit out of place. If you like quality Finnish black metal like Baptism, Behexen, Draugnim, Enochian Crescent, Horna or Satanic Warmaster "Astride Over the Grave" is a good little EP that holds tons of promise and potential for a band with a great future ahead of itself.
