    Oriana's Tales ()

Wydane przez Gardarika MusikkRok wydania Kraj UkraineNapisał Wouter7Komentarze (0)Munruthel - Oriana's TalesSecond release of Ukrainian ambient black metal project led by ex-Nokturnal Mortum drummer Munruthel. Originally released on tape by Oriana Productions in 1999, then re-released in 2004 by Polish label Eastside with a live version of 'The Brilliance Of The Thundering Swords' as a bonus track. Now once again re-released in digipack by Russian pagan/folk metal specialist label Gardarika Musikk in late December 2009 with new cover art and a bonus track 'Hyperborea (Single 2008)' substituting the live track. The album is divided into two chapters, "night" and "day", representing the light – and dark side of Munruthel's creations. Much of this album is in vein of pre-"The Smell of Rain" era Mortiis, specifically venerated darkwave/medieval releases such as "Fodt til a Herske" and "Crypt Of the Wizard". Like most releases in this genre the tracks are lengthy cuts with returning melodies and themes. More often than not these cuts tend to drone on longer than necessary, but the gloomy atmosphere complements that flaw thoroughly. Occassionally drums, guitars and vocals are used, but these emerge sparsely through out and appear to be more supportive. "Oriana's Tales" is not going to change anyone's opinion of this particular genre but Munruthel has a knack for writing this soothing medieval inspired sort of esoteric darkwave. Be sure to give it a listen.
