International death metal ensemble with members based in Japan, UK, Ukraine and Sweden featuring Tom Bradfield (Infected Disarray, Grindethic Records) and Fredrik Widigs (Kraanium, Soils Of Fate) amongst its most prominent members. The vocals are of the typical modern day Devourment, Condemned and Waking the Cadaver variety with alternating high shrieks. The riffing is good but not spectacular and save for the regular leads/solos, there's little to mention. Bradfield's vocals are similar to those of Avulsed's Dave Rotten, although they sound as if they were treated and processed as there's an odd bubble effect on them, similar to that of Dave Vincent in Morbid Angel's 'Where the Slime Live'. The no-frills drumming is impressive in its speed and endurance while the obligatory and unnecessary samples add to the supposed shock value. There isn't a whole lot of variation between these cuts, but 'Genetically Deranged' is perhaps this band shining moment. The production is okay for the genre, the guitar tone is thick, the bass buried deep (it is briefly heard in 'Septicemia') while the snares sound a bit tin and the kickdrum reduced to nothing but a clicking. The artwork, design and lay-out are quite good and not completely tasteless. Repulsive Dissection is by no means the savior of death metal the label want you to believe. "Cut Open the Abberation" is a decent debut for this international project, although a face more its own would be so much better.
