After releasing their stunning debut "When Landscapes Bled Backwards" on Dutch label Neurotic Records in 2007 Greek band Sickening Horror were poised to become a contender in the international scene. As George Kollias (drums) defected to Nile permanently line-up - and label trouble forced Sickening Horror back into the underground. "The Dead End Experiment" sees main men George Antipatis (vocals, guitars) and Ilias Daras (bass) taking the sound of their debut one step further. With influences ranging from Morbid Angel, Atheist and Death to the earlier mentioned Nile, Sickening Horror throw in additional industrial soundscapes, black metal leanings and free flowing jazz-fusion parts that remind of later era Pestilence. New drummer Jose Theodorakis' style is reminiscent of Steve Flynn (Atheist) and Gene Hoglan. The album features guest vocals from Immolation grunter/bassist Ross Dolan on the cut 'The Universe Within'. From the onset it is clear that bass-heavy productionwise this album is a step down from their debut, especially the drums suffer in this aspect while the bass guitar has never been more audible. Compared to "When Landscapes Bled Backwards" the industrial and electronic elements have come more to the front and the production isn't as nearly as massive, detailed and pristine. The majority of this album was recorded at the band's own Portal Studio. The drums were recorded at Baseline Studio. The fantastic artwork by Marko Saarelainen (The Project Hate, Pestilence) complete the package. Sickening Horror continue to amaze with its unconventional approach to the genre.
