    Graveyard Classics 3 ()

What initially started out as a joke in 2000 now has taken on a life all its own and spawned two direct sequels with 2004's "Graveyard Classics 2" (an integral SFU mauling of AC/DC's classic "Back In Black" album) and this year's third installment. On this installment Chris Barnes and co storm their way through classic cuts of Mercyful Fate, (today's hot commodity) Anvil, Metallica, Slayer, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Van Halen, Exciter, Twisted Sister, The Ramones and Prong. Steve Swanson (guitars) and Greg Gall (drums) prove to be Six Feet Under's most versatile players displaying commendable chops in the more demanding cuts of Mercyful Fate, Van Halen, Metallica and Slayer. The weak link in this band is the once respectable Chris Barnes who now has become a shadow of his former self. His choked gurgles are nigh on unlistenable and miss every ounce of rhtythm, timing and enthusiasm. The man responsible for great vocal patterns on "Tomb Of the Mutilated" and "The Bleeding" has been reduced to a disinterred archaic heap of misery. The first installment of this series came with macabre artwork by tattoo artist Paul Booth but even that is not the case anymore with this new platter. With 2008's "Death Rituals" the band was slowly crawling out of a self-imposed hole of creative dryness. "Graveyard Classics 3" is once again a nail in the coffin in a band that should have never grown beyond the side-project stage.
