Described by their label as 'quality time for a suicidal inner-space astrodoomonaut' Opium Warlords closest comparison are Eugene, Oregon cosmic doom metal combo Yob. This project, led by Spiritus Mortis frontman Sami Hynninen, brings a psychedelic and tripped out version of classic doom comparable to Candlemass, (early) Cathedral and in its more drawn out sections to Burning Witch and Khanate. The songs, which clock anywhere from 8 to 17 minutes a piece, are long drawn out droning feedback laden cuts with sparse melodies and a few riffs each. Each track consists of lengthy instrumental passages in which the bass guitar takes a prominent role. The vocals by Sami Hynninen are nasally, hoarse and occasionally he will break out with clean singing. Closing track 'Support the Satanic Youth' is the odd foray into "From Enslavement to Obliteration" era Napalm Death grindcore. Engineered by Niko Karlsson and Danil Venho the production is brick heavy with a crushing guitar – and beefy bass guitar tone. Mastered by Tommi Forsström. "Live At Colonia Dignidad" isn't something for the casual metal fan and will appeal to a niche audience that likes Burning Witch, Khanate and SunO))).
