Spawned from Hellfire and Brimstone ()

Wydane przez Vrykoblast ProductionsRok wydania Kraj ThailandNapisał Wouter7Komentarze (0)Vrykolakas - Spawned from Hellfire and BrimstoneOriginally released in 2004 but now made available again to coincide with their "Nocturnal Demons Of Death" demo compilation. On this debut Vrykolakas sound as an out-of-control and abrasively violent mix between "Amongst the Catacombs Of Nephren-Ka" era Nile, "Onward to Golgotha" era Incantation with a dash of (early) Grave as far as the melodies is concerned. Unlike Nile "Spawned from Hellfire and Brimstone" doesn't quite come with the same sort of memorable arrangements and recognizable hooks. Edi (drums) occasionally mirrors the style of Pete Hammoura (ex-Nile) but never quite matches his rolling and thunderous barbarity. With three vocalists at its disposal Vrykolakas isn't able to stand out as the vocal lines don't explore the possibilities of their three-way assault. The rare lead/solo does little to redeem matters but at least prove them to be marginally better than their peers. Compared to their demo material Vrykolakas have undergone quite a steep transformation. From their earliest Hellhammer and Blasphemy influenced beginnings to their current semi-technical and hyperspeed approach "Spawned from Hellfire and Brimstone" is quite the revelation. With increased dynamics, a recognizable hook and distinguishable vocal styles Vrykolakas might actually able to break away from the Singapore underground. Although they are not quite there yet, this debut is definitely a step in the right direction.
