Warfield is a black metal supergroup from Mexico, featuring Polo Flores (ex-Rapture) on vocals and guitar, guitarist Antimo Buonnano (ex-Disgorge) and drummer Ivan Herrera (Raped God 666) in its ranks. After releasing a lone demo in 2008 Warfield originally released its debut through Mexico's Black Saw Records but Thailand's Calamity Productions has now picked up this release for distribution in the East. "Conquering the Black Horde" is traditional through and through as its primary influences are Marduk, Dark Funeral and Enthroned. The general execution feels like Dark Funeral's legendary "The Secrets Of the Black Arts" debut. Some of the material also has a old school thrash vibe in its foundations. Herrera is a whirlwind behind the kit as his drumming is far more technical, varied and brutal than most black metal drummers. The album is concluded by a cover of Sepultura's earliest classic 'Troops Of Doom'. The lack of a bass guitar doesn't hamper Warfield in the slightest as it makes their bestial attack even more vicious. The production is relatively thin, especially the drum suffer in this aspect. The cover artwork was created by Sickness666 who is stylistically similar to Chris "Thorncross" Moyen. "Conquering the Black Horde" is by no means mandatory but it is a commendable release nevertheless.
