    An Epitaph to Tranquility ()

Wydane przez Discorporate MusicRok wydania Kraj CanadaNapisał Wouter8Komentarze (0)Cephalectomy - An Epitaph to TranquilityA serene piano intro opens this new record of Halifax, Nova Scotia (Canada) death metallers Cephalectomy. "An Epitaph to Tranquility" is the first to feature vocalist Peter Mestre (Thy Flesh Consumed). Still heavily inspired by Sylvain Houde-era Kataklysm the band now occasionally channel (early) Psycroptic in their frenzied assault. The vocals are split between Peter Mestre, Jason Nichols and Cory Andrews (guitars) - this three-way assault can easily draw comparisons with (early) Nile as all three vocalists have a distinct style. The bass work of Scott Armstrong nicely complements the riffs as it not just mirrors them but actually adds its own flair to the compositions. 'For Our Fetid Fathers' is instrumental acoustic track. Compared to earlier Cephalectomy releases the songs on this new album are relatively short, most clocking under the three minute mark. And this is the only gripe with this recording. Most songs are just a bit too short to fully explore the many intricate ideas presented within. Still, Cephalectomy are head and shoulders above many of their peers as far as technical skill and songwriting is concerned. A Cephalectomy song is like no other and as such easily recognizable. Recorded at Mystigrind Studios "An Epitaph to Tranquility" once again is blessed with a pristine production that puts many established bands to shame. The artwork is less Chaos based than earlier releases and isn't quite as visually impacting as Cephalectomy's first pair of releases.
