    Beastial Necrophelia ()

Featuring members of Lust Of Decay, Debodified and Shuriken Cadaveric Entwinement "Bestial Necrophelia" is a tad disappointing and mundane considering the pedigree of its members' collective experience. Derek Haymore (guitars, bass) riffing stays too much within the boundaries of typical slam-death territory (Internal Bleeding's "Voracious Contempt" seems to be an inspiration here), although the occasional quirk technical riff will occur. Sadly, these are never truly explored in favor for pit riffs and slam sections. His work on bass guitar is far more exotic and flashy. Jordan Varela (Debodified, Shuriken Cadaveric Entwinement) refrains from constant blasting and his work behind the kit has improved in leaps and bounds compared to his days in Lust Of Decay. Although, Varela misses the percussive density and rhythmic intensity of Tony Laureano (Angelcorpse, Malevolent Creation, Nile), Lee Harrison (Monstrosity), Alex Hernandez (ex-Immolation) or Mike Smith (Suffocation) his rolls, fills and cymbal work are more varied and engrossing than before, including the fine use of the bass drums, which not blast constantly - but only exist to emphasize heavier or darker parts of the music. The weak spot of this album and band is vocalist Jay Barnes whose utterly horrible monotoneous and undecipherable gurgles, burps and grunts miss any sort of interesting vocal lines. Recorded, mixed and mastered by Bob Moore at Sound Lab Studios in Columbia, SC (Nile, Lecherous Nocturne, etc) in a mere 4 days "Beastial Necrophelia" has a crunchy production which is the best they have ever had. The album artwork, design & lay-out by Phlegeton Art Studio (Avulsed, Dying, Human Mincer, Kronos, Tools Of Torture) is sick, tasteless and demented. By no means Cesspool Of Vermin have written a memorable or essential album - but apparently there's an audience for this. For brilliant arrangements and a hook or two this is not the place to look, as this record has no 'Hammer Smashed Face' (Cannibal Corpse), 'Open Wide' (Unleashed), 'Heartwork' (Carcass) or 'The Final Massacre' (Vader) as its calling card.
