Despite hailing from Bolzano, Italy Dead Return sound as American as they come. "Scars Of Time" presents an abrasive, semi-melodic mix of modern American metal like Darkest Hour, Killswitch Engage, Lamb Of God and Shadows Fall with straightforward hardcore/punk and minor In Flames and Iron Maiden riffing and melodies. From the tough man hardcore vocals, the unavoidable gang shouts and emotive clean sung sections Dead Return have all known elements in place. The playing is impeccable, the bass features prominently and the drums pound in relentless abandon. The only downfall of this record is how un-European it sounds. It is heavy, emotive and melodic in all the right places and instances. In a genre as saturated as American metal its hard to get noticed to begin with, Dead Return sound so American that they are impossible to tell apart from the progenitors and current leaders of this genre. Nevertheless is this a good record, although it is not a very adventurous one. If you like American metal with a punk edge, this is the band for you. "Scars Of Time" was recorded, edited and mixed at No Logo Studio by Carmelo Giacchino. Mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music in New Windsor, New York. Apparently, there's more to Italy than power metal, supremely brutal death metal and black metal.
