Infested Blood was formed in 1999 and is now onto their third record. As the band name and album title suggest this is death metal from Brazil, 10 tracks lasting barely a grand total of 28 minutes. The alien invasion concept is similar to that of the lastest records by Deeds Of Flesh, The Faceless, Gigan and early pioneers Nocturnus (1990's "The Key"). Sounds as a mix between Krisiun, Internal Suffering and Origin with bestial gurgled vocals. The drumming by Beto Santos is especially noteworthy as he is very rhythmic and percussive in his controlled gravity blasting and sparse fills. The bass - and guitar riffs are semi-technical, hammering and ripping in US style while the overall compositions have a European flair. Most tracks last little over two minutes and this somewhat limits the bands' blooming ideas. While some of the compositions are a bit underdeveloped Infested Blood are clearly in control of this style. The lack of guitar or bass leads/solos also make Infested Blood's material sound similar in the long run as they miss some recognizable hooks or arrangements at this point. Although this is greatly compensated by the percussive nature of their music. The use of abstract synthesizers and deformed alien vocals ('Gate to Alien Dimension') fit perfectly with the band's lyrical concept. Artwork, design and lay-out by Jon 'Zig' Furlough (Deeds Of Flesh, Disgorge, Sinister, Suffocation) is quite amazing and a farcry from his earlier works in the genre. Overall, "Interplanar Decimation" is an impressive record that will put Brazil further on the map as deliverer of the most extreme and brutal death metal the world has to offer.
