Violent thrash metal from Ludwigshafen, Germany. The band occassionally wanders into punk/hardcore territory with its bouncing riffs that puts this solidly in the crossover category. The multitude of screaming and sometimes even complex leads/solos make this sound a bit more technical than it actually needs to be. Straightforward and massive in execution Raw make no concessions while being hardpressed to do anything but rock out. The vocals are deep and mostly semi-grunted somewhat similar to Kataklysm's Mauricio Iacono or Testament's Chuck Billy and feel somewhat awkward in this otherwise very commendable thrash/crossover package. The playing is fast and loose with thunderous bass lines, excellent primal riffing and whirlwind drumming with plenty of double bass action. The 7 tracks of this promo may not present any novelties to the retro-thrash movement but Raw make it all sound worthwhile. The bass-heavy production by Happy Cadaver Studio is excellent and can easily compete with genre institutions such as Destruction, Exodus and Kreator. The splendid horror-meets-metal artwork couldn't have been chosen more perfectly. "The Beastard" is another underground throwback to the retro-thrash metal sound of yore that is currently making waves on both sides of the Atlantic.
