On their second record Chilean death metal trio Thornafire have increased the use of orchestral segments and acoustic guitars through out their primitive occult death metal. As with their debut "Exacerbated Gnostic Manifestation" the music is heavily inspired by Asphyx, Incantation and (early) Immolation. Going through a similar evolution that Nile went through from "Among the Catacombs Of Nephren-Ka" to "The Black Seeds Of Vengeance" Thornafire have improved their assault on all fronts. The playing of Alexis Muñoz (vocals/bass), Víctor MacNamara (guitars) and Juan Pablo Donoso (drums) has become much tighter and the tracks have become more elaborate and layered than ever before. While Thornafire doesn't necessarily play faster than before the material of this second album is much more brooding, dark and engaging. "Vorex Deconstrucción" is the band's most accomplished record to date as the tracks all go through various moods and atmospheres and the instrumental skill displayed here is nothing short of amazing. The trio's dynamics have increased and Thornafire's crushing midtempo death metal sounds more ferocious because of it. Contrary to their 2007 debut "Vorex Deconstrucción" is sung entirely in Spanish and seems to be a concept album about the abolishment of religion, Christianity in particular. The bass-heavy production is organic and gritty, quite similar to Immolation's "Here In After" and "Failures For Gods" albums. The artwork for "Exacerbated Gnostic Manifestation" was slightly more advanced and modern. By reason or by force Thornafire have written one of the best dark death metal records of recent years.
