    My Endless Sorrow ()

Wydane przez Stygian Crypt Productions/Metalhit.comRok wydania Kraj RussiaNapisał Wouter7Komentarze (0)Diathra - My Endless SorrowGothic doom metal from Mogilev (Belarus). The band's name is probably an abbreviated contraction of Diamond Theatre. "My Endless Sorrow" is in equal parts pre-"Aegis" era Theatre Of Tragedy and more gothic oriented outfits as Octavia Sperati. Like its Norwegian inspirations Diathra play a form of keyboard driven doom metal with morose gothic overlappings. The playing is relatively complex for the genre with excellent work on the guitars and keyboards and piano. The female vocals don't possess a great operatic range and have more in common with singers such as Carmen Elise Espenas (Midnattsol) or the Lolita sounding Aya (Unsun) than sopranos such as Simone Simons (Epica) or Tarja Turunen (ex-Nightwish). In its faster sections and male vocals the comparison with (early) Theatre Of Tragedy becomes clear once again sharing the spoken grunt and serene vocal interaction while speeding up the tempo a notch. Also, the female vocals here are up front and center with the male vocals coming in every once in a while, being the polar opposite of (early) Theatre Of Tragedy. As far as production goes this is similar to "Velvet Darkness They Fear" and like that album roses are given an important part in the artwork and lay-out. "My Endless Sorrow" ends up being an album that is hardly to be called revolutionary in its genre; but its sufficient understanding that gothic is supposed to be depressive and bleak certainly is a great breath of fresh wind in a genre grown oversaturated and stale by its too numerous second – and third-tier bands.
