Second album by Bulgarian death metal combo Enthrallment. An excellent cross between early '90s death metal and more modern technical-grind. Sounds like "The Seeds Of Abysmal Torment" & "Murder Without End" era Fleshgrind. Drumming reminds of Derek Hoffman (Fleshgrind, Gorgasm) or a less refined Dave Culross. Enthrallment reminds of the Spanish death metal hordes of the early to mid 90s, when every band worshipped at the altar of Suffocation, no matter how deficient or amateurish their skills were. 'Bonegrinder' is a typical example, starting out as something as Avulsed before delving into typical USDM underground territory with horrible pig squeals, breakdowns and Devourment/Texas DM copycatting. There's hardly an original idea here and while they copy their more established inspirations with passion and gusto, Enthrallment rarely venture beyond the mediocre. The organic sounding bass-heavy production is comparable to a record as "Pierced from Within" or "Despise the Sun" by US legends Suffocation. The prominent snare tone - linked to the likes of Condemned, Waking the Cadaver or Devourment - is unavoidable whenever Enthrallment breaks into slam-death territory. What Enthrallment lacks in the songwriting department they compensate richly with their sense of urgency and brutality. The misogynistic photoshopped artwork is quite a departure from their "Smashed Brain Collection" debut but is hardly eye-catching or visually compelling. Artwork by Dan Seagrave, Graal, Wes Benscoter or even Phlegeton Art Studio would have fitted this record far better than its current abomination. East-Europe has a tradition of delivering quality death metal, but Enthrallment isn't quite ready yet to ascend higher into the ranks of the truly great bands of their region.
