Long before New Orleans established its name as sludge metal capital, Louisiana-based Flesh Parade were already coming out with furious Napalm Death ("Scum" and "From Enslavement to Obliteration") inspired grindcore. As part of Relapse's Underground Series "Kill Whitey" now sees the re-issue of Flesh Parade's 1998 7" EP of which this compilation takes its name, plus their 1993 and 1994 "Worthless" and "Good Stuff" demos, respectively. The "Kill Whitey" material which fittingly opens this compilation is high octane grindcore with the most inhuman pitched shrieks. The production is thin and garage sounding and even for grindcore terms it is minimal. Most of the material is blazingly fast, with songs barely lasting more than a minute, and with their crushing breakdowns and midpaced chugging Flesh Parade betray their New Orleans roots. The following three tracks comprise the 1993 "Worthless" demo. The production is much thicker with a better drum sound and vocalist Jason Pilgrim alternates his inhuman shrieks with bellowing death grunts. The concluding four tracks form Flesh Parade's 1994 "Good Stuff" demo which is productionwise much rougher once again, but not nearly as minimal as the "Kill Whitey" material which opened this retrospective collection. The production work is a bit uneven and the artwork reminds of something Brujeria would do, but fans of (early) Napalm Death, Agathocles or Repulsion and Brutal Truth should check this out all the same. Maybe not as vital as the classics in this genre, but important for the evolution for the genre in equal measure.
