Releasing their latest slab of brutality through UK's Copro Records "Illheaven Hells" offers a decent serving of death metal. Overall, Grimness 69 reminds of now defunct death metallers Suhrim or Spanish veterans Avulsed for a broader comparison. The pace is generally at midtempo with occasional ventures into more faster sections. New vocalist Pig (not to be mistaken with the former Decapitated singer who goes by the same nickname) is adequate behind the mic and his shouted grunt sounds somewhat like a bluecollar Mike DiSalvo (ex-Cryptopsy). The majority of the tracks of this record are groove-filled numbers that bounce around nicely. Towards the second half of the record Grimness 69 experiment a bit with start-stop structures. Recorded at Entropy-Harmony Studios and mastered at New Sin Studio "Illheaven Hells" comes with pristine production that can compete with most major releases on the scene today. The artwork, design and lay-out is decent and cleanly done. Clocking around 30 minutes the 11 tracks of this record aren't especially memorable and not nearly as technical as contemporary Italian acts such as Blasphemer, Fleshgod Apocalypse or Hour Of Penance. If you like your death metal more traditional and, truthfully, not nearly as serious Grimness 69 might be the right choice.
