    Nihilistic Purity ()

Wydane przez Insidious Poisoning RecordsRok wydania Kraj UKNapisał Wouter7Komentarze (0)Lyrinx - Nihilistic PurityHailed as the British answer to US black metal icons Xasthur this EP is brimming with promise and potential. Wailing emotive vocals that recall Malefic and Martin van Drunen in equal measure Lyrinx combine the best of doom – and Scandinavian black metal. The playing is still on the simple side and song structures aren't the most complex to grace the genre but the intent and effect have never been more spot-on. Lyrinx, like their inspirations Xasthur, draw influence from doom - as well as black metal and their slow paced assault is gloomy and pondering. Still more black metal than doom "Nihilistic Purity" combines the feelings despair and alienation with the depression and darkness of the latter. The production is okay considering its somewhat of a glorified demo. The drums, especially the snares, are overpowering the whole just a bit. The bass is nicely audible and the tortured vocals feature prominently. The artwork, design and lay-out are amateurish at best, proving that Lyrinx is still partly trapped in its demo-phase mindset. "Nihilistic Purity" by British doom/black metal act Lyrinx has a lengthy release history. Initially a self-release by the band, "Nihilistic Purity" was released on cassette format on Todestrieb Records. Later it was released on an official CD on November 2007 through GoatowaRex. The album was re-released on CD by Those Opposed Records in September 2008, featuring a bonus track plus extended lay-out.
